I'll admit it right up front...I'm a horrible blogger. That said, sometimes there's something I feel a need to share and this time, blogging seems the best way to get the word out to the most people (who can link back here).
There are so many worthy organizations in need of donations today that I hesitate in even asking....but this is a cause very near and dear to my heart, SPCA Tampa Bay 3K Pet Walk, and our team is extra special.
The mini "back" story goes like this.... Until this week, our team, Frankie Stiteler's Walkin' for Weiners, was in first place. Then, one person (ONE!!) created a "team" and donated $7,150.00. Another person joined that team and donated $75. All monies raised through Pet Walk go to one cause, of course (SPCA Tampa Bay), but our team has worked so hard to achieve first place, that it broke my heart to learn about this change.
Starting early last winter, individuals on our team have recruited new members, sold hot dogs, sold earrings (guess who!), washed cars, and done many other things to raise money. None of us are wealthy. We've worked really hard to earn our $6,665.00, one dollar at a time.
In addition, our team's mascot, Frankie, was the beloved doxie of one of my best friends. After the team was established, Frankie experienced unexpected health issues and passed much too early. After minimal discussion, we decided to keep the name and do this in memory of Frankie.
Just $600 would put us back in the running for first place. Yes, I understand that the "one" person could easily donate more to boost Barbara's team's standing...but my hope, of course, is that that doesn't happen. $600 is a lot of money to most of us...but I know that things like this can easily go "viral."
If only 60 people donated just $10 each, we'd meet our goal! But timing is of extreme importance!!!
Our 3K Pet Walk is Saturday and the money needs to be in our account no later than Friday, October 19th.
It's not important to me whether you donate under my name (Mary Roberts) or as a "general" team donation. It IS important to me that you donate something, if you can, and that you please (please please please!) share this blog post with as many of your friends as quickly as you can within the next 24 hours. Put it on twitter, share it on facebook, send emails...just please share.
All the reasons behind my request will only matter to my team members, but please know that your donation, no matter how small, WILL make a difference. Below is the link to our team's page. Thank you SO much for your consideration!!
-Mary
